Frequently Asked
We get a lot of the same questions day-to-day, so we hope we can save you a little time by answering some of these repeated questions here.

-
No. We DO NOT do piercings of any kind, whatsoever.
We get this question on a daily basis and we understand that our Facebook page is listed as a “Tattoo & Piercing Shop” but that is only because Facebook does not have a “Tattoo Shop” only option. There is nothing we can do to fix that at this time!
-
We do not do in-person consultations. We do all consulting and scheduling online through the Request Appointment email form.
We do not consult or schedule over phone / text.
-
Generally, no.
Since Cal Tattoo switched over to appointment only, we aren’t able to accommodate walk-in clientele.
If there is a last-minute cancellation that we want to fill, it will be posted to our Facebook page with instructions / details, but it will not be first-come, first-served.
-
It depends on who your artist is!
We may consider doing a face, finger, or hand tattoo if you are a long established client of ours. Wedding band tattoos will still likely be declined.
-
Gmail is free and easy to join!
We do not do ANY in-person or over the phone consultations or booking — it’s all online. -
When we’re at the shop, we’re with a client or we’re busy tattooing. By the time we stop, get our gloves off, and get to the phone, we’ve usually missed your call anyway.
And we don’t return calls because we absolutely do not have the time to accommodate that.
Either way — we will probably just end up directing you here, to the website!
-
Some of our artists prefer to be contacted this way, and if you are directed to do so, that’s totally fine!
Getting messages on many different platforms makes it 10x harder to keep track of everything. We already get behind on email replies sometimes, so spreading that out across many inboxes will just slow things down even more.
If you message us somewhere we did not ask you to or specify, do not expect a reply — which is just because we probably won’t even see it.
-
Our goal is to send initial replies within 3 - 5 weeks. After we have the ball rolling with you, we tend to reply faster than that.

-
Absolutely Not.
Tattoo shops are not kid-friendly spaces for many reasons, so anyone with you must be 18+ only.
-
The shop is very small, so we ask that clients bring ONLY ONE guest with them. This guest must also be 18+ years of age, no children.
-
The price of a tattoo is based on many factors — which artist is doing your tattoo? How large and/or complicated is the design? Is there color? How well is the client sitting? Etc.
When you book with us, we will give you a loose estimate — not a set price — but that number can change based on many variables.
-
We do not take prepayments.
Ashlee does not take gift certificates — if you are interested in gifting someone a tattoo / session, she will usually recommend just giving them cash towards a tattoo.
Calen will take gift certificates for established clients only.
-
As Calen says, your tattoo will take as long as it takes. We can give you an estimate but our first priority is giving you a high-quality tattoo, which means taking our time and not cutting corners.
-
Please do not leave a voicemail — we are not able to accommodate returning calls at this time.
We DO NOT schedule or consult via text or phone call.
-
According to the manufacturers, both our black and color ink is 100% vegan.
-
We do not do Friday the 13th specials or special flash events of any kind.
If you are hoping to get a tattoo on Friday the 13th, it will have to be scheduled ahead of time (likely a month or more in advance) as we are by appointment only. This applies to all other holidays and other “special” dates.
-
We are not looking for receptionists, artists, or apprentices at this time.
In case you missed it elsewhere:
— There is a 3-5 week wait on initial replies. Nothing you can do will speed this up, it’s all on us!
— Please do not ask if we got your request. We prefer if you send it again if you believe there was an error!
— Requesting an appointment does not guarantee one. We may not be the right fit for you!
— We don’t do anything over the phone. We will not call you!
— A question with an answer easily found on the website is lower priority than appointment requests, but it will still get answered!
Keep in Mind
We are generally very busy day-to-day with clientele and their tattoo projects (drawing and tattooing), but we will respond to your message during business hours as soon as one of our artists are able to. This can take up to 3 - 5 weeks.
The listed business hours are general parameters and not guaranteed! Our exact hours vary according to each artists appointment schedules and any holidays.
We do try to work with a client’s ideas but there is a chance your project is something that neither artist feels comfortable taking on, possibly due to the style you’re looking for, subject matter, or requested placement, and may refer you to another shop or tattoo artist.
The artists at Cal Tattoo always reserve the right to refuse service.
